73 Year Old Portland Woman Raped In Nursing Home For Months

Richard D. Vandenberg, 59, was arrested in Portland, Oregon, for raping 73 year old nursing home resident, whom he befriended at her church. He is alleged to have visited her multiple times over three months, and sexually abused her each time. See the whole story here

The victim was unable to protest, or complain to staff, due to diminished mental capacity. Vandenberg used her mental state as a shield with which to mask his actions. Staff noticed behavioral changes, and looked into the issue. They then notified authorities when they had enough evidence to be suspicious. Nursing home abuse is all too common.

Court records show he is charged with 10 counts of first-degree sexual abuse, four counts of first-degree unlawful sexual penetration and two counts of first-degree rape.
